It's funny because if you look up the history of the Tejas(Texas), it was invaded ...by white settlers who didn't want to follow Mexico's laws abolishing slavery.

Lots of us did. There were protests at my college and in some RA meetings, some naive folks asked if we could have demonstrations to "support the troops." The false reframing was ABSURD....The Chicks got a Janet Jackson sized cancelation for quite a few years afterward.

When the allegiances of the DNI, who prepares the PDB and shapes what POTUS hears about outside conflicts, are with Ukraine's enemy in the war, I'd second guess giving the US a heads up myself if I were they. 🤷🏾♂️

The problem it solved is the leaders wanting to say they have an answer for the automatic computer vision kiosks at airports and stadiums but scalable and low cost with current tech. 😅 Whoever designed the flow didn't think about how it breaks with more than 2 items.

I don't think self checkout itself was the problem, it's the forced usage / slowness. I used mobile scan at 7/11 for the first and likely last time the other day. I had to wait in line to show the clerk my phone and he had to verify each item with like 4 taps on a tablet.

Mildly related, I learned the other day that y'all's white ibises are nicknamed "bin birds" for stealing food out of the trash and being little menaces.

I've been using tactile counters. First a silicone kids toy with numbers and letters, then plastic purpose built for stitch/row counting and now tally counters.
