with the rise of the hype/launch video, founders need to get some real talk: many of you are not charismatic on screen. good lighting & high production value ≠ rizz. if your goal is to get reposts on X from your inner circle, then maybe it’s fine. but users, buyers, and future employees will want more. smile, convey you’re having fun, give us a hero to root for. stand/sit in a more natural setting—try a couch! talk with your hands. get into closer proximity to your cofounder (the maximum physical closeness without being creepy!) remind us: why you? tell me a story. give me something to anticipate. learn how to make eye contact w a camera. more of you need (new) media training! remember: when you’re having fun, we’re having fun. learn the medium. and SMILE!

Let me try to inject a little optimism here. Yes, please. I do think that there are these avenues where you see people really hungry for a human connection. I think podcasts are a big part of that. And I think it's because people want those authentic connections. They want to be able to tell you what they actually care about and how they're thinking about things. So I don't think it's as if everyone is giving up on human connection and deep thinking at the same time. The solution is podcasts.

When startups work, it’s because they find demand, and shape their products to fit demand. Demand exists organically in some shape or form - it’s out there - the startup harnesses it, sometimes in creative and weird ways. When startups don’t work, it’s because they push their product, trying to convince the market they should have demand. In other words, demand isn’t out there - it is manufactured, the founder tries to “conjure” demand, often through creative and weird tactics.
