I wonder what caused this modern renaissance of Japanese Adventure games that are both critically acclaimed and financially successful. Feels like we have been getting a ton of them with stuff like Famicon Detective Club, Paranormasight, Urban Myth Dissolution Center, etc.

Every "arcade games are the original microtransaction" argument makes more sense if the person never played an old ass game that was like hey aim for a high score like the old electromechanical games like pinball these originated from, and only played games in the past ten years or whatever.
