Actually this applies to most 80s franchise stuff that gets milked to this day. To quote a friend talking about Star Wars recently : “there’s maybe one or two good films in there. Chill”.

It feels like an ambiguous tale about two “monstrous” beings which he simplified and explicited for kids, and then added his fave tropes of gothic ladies falling inlove with monsters and asshole daddies. And the result just doesn’t work for me

I literally just saw it so it won’t be very well processed but: characters being changed is fine. However this is so flattened, the creature is devoid of the darkest acts and aspects from the book, Frankenstein is mostly an asshole with little nuance. Dialogue explicits so much so bluntly

In need of things to enjoy, I started watching a lot of older stuff from before the 2000/2010s (that hadn’t already seen) and it progresses so much faster, is so much denser. I truly don’t get it.
