It's genuinely anti-human tech, but at this point I have no clue how to communicate that to people.

Was in a voice call with an IRL friend once and there was like a solid 15 minute chunk of that call they spent talking with ChatGPT in voice mode.

Just totally disengaged from anyone else in the call or in their actual real life house, and they took everything it said as absolute truth.

You may court the beast, but you must not say its name.

It's not a novel observation, but I think it's a valuable one to reinforce.

I've yet to see a bot that can properly parse out context, and at this point it feels like a feature.

YouTube regularly demonstrates that they are fine with the promotion of all sorts of vices but they draw the line at describing them in any sort of unadulterated human language.

Also, I think "door in the middle of the block" is going to look really good on a full size door.
December 10, 2025 at 11:51 PM
Don't have advice to offer here, but I feel the 1 block door would make for a really nice fence gate type of block.

Always bothers me that Minecraft doesn't have proper a 1 tall by 2 wide door option. It's either 2 doors (too tall) or two fence gates (that don't look right next to eachother).

Happy to hear it worked out for ya'. :)

I find it's a coin toss for myself. It's either never sleep again or sleep for twice as long as I originally wanted to (and still feel really tired for some reason?!?).

It's a lot of words to make a simple point, but I'm very passionate about games as an art. So many awesome people making cool, funky little things in spite of the everything trying to hold them down.

This concludes the essay posting, now off to play some neat little games before I rest.

Sorta tangential, but in this context AI is the Platonic ideal of a culture thief. It subsumes everything and yet returns nothing.

This opposed to the creative who destroys nothing yet makes everything.
December 10, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Not to say that theft of ideas isn't itself a massive problem (I have seen *The* plagiarism Video), but in all reality many of the people who rule their intellectual property with an iron fist are also massive property thieves.

No one hates having their data scraped as much as an AI company.
December 10, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Lots of these small fry "hackers" and "thieves" will one day be, if they are not already, themselves the artists getting their ideas purloined by the next generation.

It's all a part of the lifecycle of culture.
December 10, 2025 at 9:07 AM
I reckon it's deeply anti-human thinking. Everything we have today is built on top of a base of things made by other people that came before us, and everything that exists tomorrow will have existed because of us.
December 10, 2025 at 9:07 AM
ROM hacks, speed/challenge runs, fan art and fan games: these are all the things that keep the spirit of a game alive. They are culture, just as any fairy tale or folk song or tradition is culture.

And yet this culture is treated as disposable, an infringement upon that which inspired it.

I'm being a bit of a parrot here, but this been my problem for a little while now as Firefox started dipping their toes into AI. It's all well and good that I *can* disable it, but it should be off by default and not hidden in about:config.

As for the sound effect itself I think it works; it just plays a lot which leads to some listening fatigue even with the variable pitch.
December 10, 2025 at 12:15 AM
From there, play with the time it takes for each element to appear and try having the sound effect play closer to when each object starts to appear rather than after it has already appeared.
December 10, 2025 at 12:15 AM
It's not a one-to-one; VS is trying to do a long suspense into sudden release, which I don't think is quite appropriate for what you're trying to do here.

What I think I'd recommend is to group those upgrades into groups of two, so that the sound effect plays three times instead of six.
December 10, 2025 at 12:15 AM
To give an example of a similar thing I think works well: the treasure chests in Vampire Survivors. The beat hits are rapid and the items appear in groups which both make the reveal feel really fast.

Take this advice with a bit of skepticism as I'm still learning a lot about sound and music myself:

I think it takes too long for everything to appear, and too long for the sound effect to start after objects start appearing.

To cap this off, a link to the RHDC page in case anyone this far into the thread wants to see the above screenshot themselves.

Or maybe Nintendo gets visited by three ghosts and this becomes a link to a really cool and high-effort hack.

And I'll never quite understand it myself. My *dream* is to one day create something impactful enough that people still want to mess with it long after I'm in the ground. Nintendo has that dozens of times over and they despise it.
