Interested in early adversity, interoception, and emotion.
Our integrative model — the first to combine 3 key frameworks — shows how:

Masculine norms → Alexithymia → Emotion regulation difficulties → Internalizing problems

How might the ways we teach boys to “be men” shape their mental health and wellbeing? 🧠

Thrilled to share our new paper led by Vincent Mancini with an absolute dream team — James Gross 🇺🇸, David Preece 🇦🇺 & Jack Brett 🇦🇺.

It’s not particularly new, but I LOVED „Educated“. Having lived in that part of the US, it hit very close to home.

Considering everything that's going on, this seems likely a timely announcement:

Our primer on emotion regulation is out now! 🤩

We break down what emotion regulation is, why it matters, and how to assess & improve it. 🤓

Wonderful talk by Giusi Porciello at #2024SPR on new methods - including ingestible pills - in investigating the role of the gut-brain axis in shaping emotional experiences. 🧠💊

1 in 4 children experience maltreatment. Our meta-analysis on long-term implications for interoception:

Emotional abuse is negatively related to interoceptive accuracy. Child maltreatment – most notably emotional maltreatment – is negatively correlated with body trust.

Last, Andrew Farkas makes a case for more realistic stimuli & shows dynamic emotional videos modulate ssVEPs more than neutral ones, shedding light on how videos affect prolonged attentional processes.

@yannikstegmann.bsky.social giving a great presentation (🐍👀) on their study using flickering video stimuli to track neural activity during threat detection, showing how anxious contexts alter visuocortical engagement.

Last - but in no way last - @katfoerster.bsky.social presents her longitudinal, neuroscientific findings on rumination in young patients.🧠
Her research indicate that rumination may be associated with more ineffective implicit ER in young MDD-patients.

Annmarie McNamara presenting her findings on the boundary conditions of savoring: Savoring doesn’t seem to be limited by a ceiling level or stress level, and could be a great technique in various contexts. More to come on savoring in negative affect. Fascinating!

Maria Krajuškina kicking off this symposium at #2024SPR with her talk on self-report, EMG & EEG measures of reappraisal for increasing positive affect. 💭
It’s shown to be efficacious in different valence contexts & on different measure.

What a great way to start the morning! 🤩

I’ve been looking forward to this symposium at #2024SPR - we’ll be looking beyond explicit down-regulation of negative affect & exploring new avenues for ER research.

So happy to announce my summer stay at Bridget Callaghan's BABLab @ UCLA is official!
I can't wait to finally meet everyone in person & dive into some incredible projects together.

Even more excited than me: the kids (who are absolutely obsessed with California) 🌴🏄‍♀️

Feeling a bit like a fish out of water in this neuroscience sea, but so grateful I get to soak up all this knowledge and impressive expertise at the FENS-Hertie Winter School on the neuroscience of mental health.

It’s such a privilege to be here!
