I feel you.
I graduated HS in 1987 and those people are completely unrecognizable to me now.
It all boils down to this, as I age I get less sure, more willing to listen and learn, and far more empathetic.
They all seem to have latched on to (right wing) certainty in all of the worst ways

2/ TL;dr the poverty line today is ~$32k based on minimum food expense times x3, because in ‘62 given 1 income home ownership, no child care expense, $10 mo healthcare it made sense.
