President Biden took a bold step towards ending the Death Penalty at the Federal level today. I offer Hitchens’ argument against the Death Penalty excerpted here and with a link to the entire 10 minute speech.

As our struggle veers of course into senseless violence it might be instructive to remember that all conflict is class conflict.

The question of political violence and its place may be debated, but aiming it at the citizen soldiers of the all volunteer National Guard is incorrect and misguided.

This is an excellent read. It starts with a look at how the Poverty Line was calculated originally, what it was and wasn’t meant to describe, and how badly it works in 2025 vs the early 1960’s

Then the author takes the conclusions of this and draws them out over the current economy and it’s grim

We need boots on the street (or should I say, where white people are) calling all white allies to put Mexican flag and other paraphernalia on their vehicles. Hand them out for free.

ICE starts pulling over dozens of rolling ads for Pottery Barn the whole haystack starts looking like needles.
What the hell is happening in Atlanta right now?
We’re hearing reports that ICE has set up checkpoints across Metro Atlanta and is detaining people.

No one should have to live in fear just driving down the street. No one should be targeted because of what they look like.

The thing that grabs me here is that the idea of getting this kind of data resolution at scale was science fiction 20 years ago (ye olde Aughts!)

I know I have some lawyers on here that can weigh in on this..

How can these guys pass a law that retroactively allows them to sue like this?

And passing legislation which benefits you directly and personally has got to be a problem too right?
You would think that the 8 GOP Senators who are SO OUTRAGED that Jack Smith subpoenaed their phone records that they want $1 million compensation would bring him in to testify IN A PUBLIC HEARING to explain why he did this. But no, they don’t want to do that. I wonder why?
