Let’s #DitchDST and #SaveStandardTime! 👉 @savestandard.bsky.social
Mike is right. Here’s a graph. Mean solar time keeps within a quarter hour of apparent solar time all year (and greatest divergence is not during northern hemisphere’s summer). Standard Time is designed to keep within a half hour of mean solar time. DST adds an hour of misalignment by design.

I’m saying we should keep clocks honestly aligned to the sun year-round again; we should abolish Daylight Saving Time and restore permanent Standard Time.

To illustrate these differing dates, here is a chart of sunrise and sunset times throughout the year, centered in winter, for Kamloops, British Columbia. 👉 More cities are on our website: savestandardtime.com/chart/?city=...

No, the fact that sunrise/set vary so much every day is why we can’t set clocks to them. Clocks are instead set to midday (when the sun crosses the meridian), which is much more regular.

Yes, ditch DST and save Standard Time!

Ideally everywhere. That’s how Standard Time is designed.

I am quoting statistics from the US Census Bureau and the Center for Disease Control. Cursing at me (at you did in your other reply) or accusing me of “privilege” (as you did above, for no apparent reason) can’t change the data.

Permanent DST would put sunrise in WA past 8am (when most work/school begins) for 3–4 months every year. Millions would suffer negative consequences to mental health, physical health, and safety. It was a deadly failure in 1974. This is not an “edge case”.

No, time is a measurement of the natural world. DST is a false clock.

Clocks are tools for timekeeping and for navigation. Longitude determines time, and therefore time can reveal longitude.

When we start work/school at 8am Daylight Saving Time, we’re actually starting at 7am Standard Time. DST is a hidden mandate to wake earlier (and to sleep less).

I agree, it’s one of my favorites.
