I honestly thought the second one was a cheap fan exit but no that's actually the PAL skies of arcadia cover
they just cut the key art from the excellent japanese cover and slapped it over an in-game pirate ship

well the good news! I know what the issue is and provided the rest of the unit is shorted or damaged, all this guy needs is a few jumper wires and she'll be good to go!

my initial guess is that there is battery corrosion that leaked to the main board which is causing it not to work
luckily this thing is pretty much identical to the other stinky remote which ive opened before so i imagine the process is the same
left is cool new remote, right is ol' stinky
