Again, war comics were still in vogue when the 1976 DC Calendar was printed. Basically the Losers were a WWII-set team of soldiers with bad luck that persevered... at least until they were crassly killed off as cannon fodder in "Crisis."

On TV shows, we love to arc a villian — force the bad guy to team up with the good guys and follow that character on a path to redemption. It’s fun, but it’s fiction.

It's not fresh in my head because I read it as it came out, but what exactly is R Rated about Last Ronin? I don't recall an abundance-if any- cussing, no sex, no nudity, the usual ninja violence. It has a "mature tone" because of the world and circumstances that exist in it.

I talk to my wife about this stuff all the time & we've come to the conclusion our parents in the early to mid 80s were not very responsible with a new technology letting us just kinda see and listen to these movies they insisted on watching and whether we were in the room or not was up to us..?
This was during a period my parents were getting tapes from...wherever...& just sort of playing these movies at all times of the day.I must have been 6ish when I walked in on that opening title scene. Ive had this movie burned in my brain since.

I read the new R. Crumb comic today and it bummed me out - it’s heartening to see that in his 80s he can still draw like a motherfucker, but he’s totally fallen down the anti-vax rabbit hole, he even recommends RFK jr’s books. *extended Charlie Brown sigh*
