I would highly recommend that you don't.

Rusty... I just can't with this.

This is so bad, I couldn't believe it someone could be this devoid of cultural awareness as a journalist. I had to watch the video myself.

Warning, it's 3:44 long but FEELS like eons of her saying absolutely nothing of substance, while simultaneously saying something incredibly, stunningly dumb.

I guess my point is, I don't cede the ground of "centrist" journalism to Weiss, TFP or whatever she thinks she's doing with CBS/60 Minutes.

@longlead.com is one of an incalculable amount of outlets who are producing journalism for anyone who wants to engage with it—we hope you'll be one of them.

Heck, our latest feature is even centrist, too—because it's not inherently political at all. Twins are born to people across the spectrum, and when they come together every year at this festival, nobody cares what their politics are. (It's wonderful!)

What do twins know that the rest of us don’t?
Amid an epidemic of loneliness and social isolation, a gathering of twins celebrates the power of connection, companionship, and community.

Here's another. @vermontgmg.bsky.social, @thetrace.org and I have heard from a lot of people 2A-touting gun owners about this podcast, and they remark on how balanced it is. The NRA doesn't agree, but then again the NRA is complicit in the gun violence epidemic. (Loesch was their spokesperson, so 🤷)
Long Shadow podcast: In Guns We Trust
Mass shootings have plagued the U.S. for generations. But in 1999, when shots rang out in a suburban Denver school, it was different. What changed? Everything.

Here's a feature we produced at @longlead.com that did that very well. Liberals and conservatives have embraced this reporting equally, because it's a topic that knows no political boundaries:

Home of the Brave: Enduring the VA’s Homeless Veteran Crisis
A centuries-spanning land war in LA between the U.S. government, local forces, and disabled veterans has left thousands of heroes without a place to call home.

"Centrist" news isn't about bringing two wacky, politically opposed people together for a knife fight and watching them walk away as friends.

It's picking issues that impact everyone, producing the best attainable version of the truth, and presenting it in a way that respects all sides and sources.
November 25, 2025 at 5:58 PM
Still, it's wild how she acts like producing centrist news is something she pioneered at TFP, and I think journalists should take a lot of exception to her staking claim to that ground.

You know who produced a lot of great, centrist news for decades? 60 Minutes—but I have doubts that will continue.

I don't think Drop Site's summation of the video has the best fidelity to what she actually said—but hey you're doing the lord's work by boiling down such self aggrandizing bullshit into only so many characters. I don't know that I could do better.
November 25, 2025 at 5:58 PM
I'm not in any way defending this administration—or any of them—but this has been going on for 50 years. The current WH has arguably done the most to rectify the issue, which is to say they've acknowledged it, announced a goal to fix it, but not much else.

That said, they're appealing the case. 🤷

If it were that easy: 1. It would’ve been done by now, 2. It would’ve been successful when it was done several years ago, and 3. Our veterans deserve better than tents and porta potties.
