Yes it does and yes it can, and in fact it has to be compared because baked into a deal like that are both the risk of reaching FA and the cost of forgoing FA at 30 vs 32. Those 2 years get amortized big time, they’re big money. Maybe you ignore opportunity cost, better believe the players don’t.

Because he wouldn’t sign that ridiculous offer they made (4/$80M) and that’s when they could have gotten the best return for him. I think they should just keep and pay him, but if they have no intention of that, or of really trying to win, then trading him is a place you can land. It sucks.
