(2/2) Also: Tre Johnson is QUESTIONABLE to play because of left hip flexor soreness. Khris Middleton (second night of a back-to-back), Marvin Bagley (right hip contusion) and AJ Johnson (right ankle hip contusion) are OUT.
(1/2) The Wizards' injury report for their game tonight in Chicago is out, and the highlight is that Alex Sarr, who missed the last two games because of a sore big toe, is no longer on the list. So that indicates he'll play tonight.

(1/2) Deni Avdija had 26 points and a career-high 14 assists in Portland's 127-123 victory at Golden State tonight. In addition, Sidy Cissoko scored a career-high 15 points for Portland. Who is Sidy Cissoko? Good question!

The Wizards' Marvin Bagley III (right hip contusion), AJ Johnson (right ankle contusion) and Alex Sarr (sore left big toe) will not play tonight in Toronto.

Marcin Gortat in the arena tonight:

So many teams are playing fast now, speeding upcourt to get open shots or exploit crossmatch mismatches. But too often, some of the teams, the Magic especially, take contested shots quickly, which defeats the purpose of playing fast. Orlando loses a lot of possessions that way.
November 21, 2025 at 12:46 AM
Marcin Gortat's name came up today because a film crew from Poland is in Orlando working on a piece about him. Which reminded me: Wendell Carter Jr. had a perfect "Gortat screen" to help Anthony Black on this uncontested driving layup in Tuesday's Magic-Warriors game. Here's the video:

Here's a play from last night's Wizards-Timberwolves game that caught my eye. Keep your eye on the restricted area, where Washington's Tristan Vukcevic provides a textbook Kornet contest on a 3-point try by Minnesota's Bones Hyland.

This game has been the total opposite of the game against the Nets. Against the Nets, the Wizards did not respond well to playing badly. Tonight, they've had an excellent response. That doesn't mean they'll win the game, but it is much better.

Bilal Coulibaly sure seems to have mastered driving right-handed dunks. He's had two more tonight.
November 20, 2025 at 3:05 AM
That was a positive third quarter for the Wizards -- a good response to a rotten second quarter. They've cut the Wolves' lead to 94-82 entering the fourth.
November 20, 2025 at 2:51 AM
Halftime: Timberwolves 71, Wizards 46.
Coulibaly: 10 pts., 2 rebs., 2 assts.
Reid: 23 pts., 3 rebs., 1 asst.
Turnovers: Timberwolves 2, Wizards 12
Points scored off turnovers: Wolves 21, Wizards 0.
November 20, 2025 at 2:05 AM
The Wizards have played a good first quarter so far. They've shown a heavy emphasis on ball movement, and the five turnovers have stemmed, for the most part, from them trying to make the right play. Those are well-intentioned mistakes. The Wolves converted those turnovers into 11 points.

Alex Sarr will not play tonight in Minneapolis because of left big toe soreness, the Wizards said.

The requests from teammates rain down on Anthony Black daily: Assert yourself.

On Tuesday, he showed why the Magic know he can be so important. Story in @theathletic.com:

The Wizards' plan is their plan, and, as I wrote on Oct. 21, it would be a grave error to abandon their long-term roster-construction strategy. But tanking does create noxious consequences, as last night showed yet again. Are the young players learning how to win?

Can the Wizards keep losing like this without stunting their youngsters’ growth?
Washington, which has lost 12 of its first 13 games, played so badly Sunday that its veterans called a players-only meeting.

The Washington Wizards lost their 11th straight game last night, leading to a players-only meeting. How much longer can the team keep losing like this without stunting its youngsters' development? Are they learning how to win? Story in @theathletic.com:

Bilal Coulibaly, who has missed Washington's last four games because of a calf bruise, is getting closer to a return. Coulibaly has been listed as questionable for the Wizards' home game Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets.

(1/2) Monumental Basketball right now is holding its annual Thankful Meals event for residents of Ward 7 and Ward 8. Wizards players and staff members are participating. Mystics players and staff will be here in a bit. (The Go-Go are out of town for a road game.)

Cam Whitmore's potential is undeniable. So are the areas that he and the Wizards are seeking to improve. In his return to face his former team, the 21-year-old displayed both.

Wizards’ Cam Whitmore shows his potential — and flaws — in Houston return
The Rockets were eager to trade Whitmore. The Wizards were eager to take him. The season ahead may show which team made the right decision.
