Was checking out latest @copenhagenizers.bsky.social bike friendly city rankings and noticed they used my bike bus image in the lead of their report. This has become the most widely circulated image in my entire archive. Cool to see it travel so far and wide.

This is not bad for a pre-Canva era event flyer.

Who remembers the first BikeCraft? And why'd Shift ever stop doing their Winter Social.

So excited to be bringing it back again this year. More details coming soon, but save 12/17 on your calendar!

Kind of perfect that the largest business financial donor to the effort to refer the Oregon transportation bill to the ballot comes from a chain of gas stations.

Jacksons gas stations/food stores have given $15,000 so far to No Tax Oregon.

This photo is so inspiring. I might get it framed for the Shed.

Lots of talk abt leaves in bike lanes (yet again, it's an annual tradition here in Portland)... And PBOT just shared this slide at their monthly Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting.

"Appreciate your patience - the leaf drop is early this year"  🤣

aaand ODOT just removed this item from the agenda of tomorrow's meeting.

Sure is interesting to me how Portland Police issue a careless driving citation at the scene of a crash when it involves one of their own. I'm always told they can't do this until investigation closes, and in many cases (involving bike riders), police just leave it to insurance to figure out.

Police just shared the name of one of the three people killed in separate traffic crashes in Hazelwood N'hood on October 28th. His name was Don Edney, a 59 year old man who was in a wheelchair when he was hit. Look at all the people who showed up for a celebration of his life at a local church. ❤️‍🩹

Damn. Never realized that Oregon fatal crashes are so closely tied to VMT. This is one reason why it's so vital that we make buses and bikeways as good as possible and do everything we can w land use & housing to lower our VMT. Drive more, die more. Drive less, die less. It's that simple.

"The CEI Hub supplies 90% of fuel to Oregon. If there's limited amount of fuel, how's trucking going to work? How are businesses going to run? How are people going to get from A to B?" - At Freight Advisory Committee, folks are freaking out abt council proposal to limit amount of fuel at CEI Hub

Just updated post with more precise location of NE 102nd crash. Police tell me it was at/near NE Holladay intersection.

Gotta love when ODOT Director tells his bosses at the OR Transportation Commission about how the IBR Admin has decided to leave the project, without ever actually saying those words or Greg Johnson's actual name. It's just a "leadership transition"... nothing to see here.

At that 2023 conference panel in NYC (hosted by Transportation Alternatives), moderator asked panelists for final thoughts. Here's what Zohran Mamdani said:

"Politicize every death...  It is clear that the responsibility lies with those who lead the city, and in our case, that's Mayor Adams."

"And for those of you who read the local news: Yes, I am fully in support of more BAT lanes [on 82nd Ave]." - Metro Councilor Christine Lewis at MPACT opening plenary this morning

Nice to have at least some elected officials who are willing to stand firmly behind transit!

Breaking news: Interstate Bridge Replacement Project Administrator Greg Johnson is stepping down from his role in the project effective Dec. 31.

He will be replaced by Carley Francis from WashDOT.

Every year, @pbotinfo.bsky.social holds a "Bike to Books" contest in coordination w local libraries where kids/adults design a bike lane stencil. Winners get their design actually put onto a marking in the street!

Here's Buczek's answer to the question of whether or not staff can quantify safety benefits of BAT lanes.
October 23, 2025 at 5:05 PM
“The intent [of staff recommendation] was to have a full & robust conversation, and for it to be a starting point… we realize that it suggests some sort of conclusion, and that’s not the case… We have heard that more conversation & understanding is needed.” - Jesse Stemmler, TriMet project manager
October 23, 2025 at 2:09 AM
“A seven mile bus lane will be a disaster. I haven’t met a single person who supports that.” - Jon Isaacs, local resident.

“On behalf of the chamber, we don't support or oppose any option. We formally request an economic impact study.” - Jon Isaacs, exec VP of public affairs, Metro Chamber
October 23, 2025 at 1:50 AM
“Perhaps 94% of people show up by vehicle because the bus access, the bike access, and the pedestrian access on 82nd is garbage! It sucks!” - local resident named Jack, who was wearing a TriMet holiday sweater
October 23, 2025 at 1:43 AM
“I surveyed my customers, and over 93.5% visit our via vehicle… I hope we can work together and find a more balanced solution.” - Mike Liu, owner of Fubonn (who has signed onto a letter from a law firm w owner of Washman car washes opposing bus lanes)
October 23, 2025 at 1:41 AM
Overall, so far the public testimony has strongly favored full BAT lanes. Some real solid testimony, from actual bus riders.
October 23, 2025 at 1:30 AM
This letter from 82nd Ave Biz Association was passed out to CAC members.

“We strongly object to the seven (7) mile BAT Lane option and can not currently endorse the three (3) mile "Some BAT Lane" proposal without more evaluation on business impact.” - Nancy Chapin, board VP.

About to start 82nd Ave Transit Project Community Advisory committee (CAC) meeting at PCC SE Campus (82nd & Division). Abt 50 ppl here. Expecting spicy discussion abt recent business access & transit (BAT) lane recommendation from TriMet staff.
