I love it when I take a photograph that, if I saw it for sale in a store, I wouldn't give it a second glance because it's so schmaltzy and clicheed, but because I took it I think "OMG this could be sold as a poster!"

I've seen this a number of times in Europe: Ancient building whose upper floors have missing windows and are probably being damaged by the weather, even while the lower floors are still occupied. Surely they must realize the damage that causes!

My grandfather, Eric Ellis, on the left; his brother, Dick Ellis of the Bicycle Battalion, on the right.

In 1937, Dick bought a bottle of champagne to be consumed by the last two surviving members of the Bicycle Battalion. He himself consumed it, with Billy Richardson, in 1993. Died in 96 @ 100.
