One strength of the Dormanns et al model is how it isolates the temporal roles of neuronal vs endothelial NO and their interactions with other signals like K⁺. It gives a structured way to test how different sources of NO contribute to CBF dynamics, something hard to dissect in vivo.

Interestingly, the positive effects of nitrate appear to be linked to the duration of supplementation, instead of following a dose-dependent pattern!

This study reveals disrupted nitric oxide-dependent NVC in the hippocampus of young GK rats (T2DM animal model).
T2DM was also associated with poor spatial memory and learning
