Brother, there were dozens of tutorial videos when Sonic Racing Crossworlds came out that had to tell people "If you're gonna hit the wall, let go of the acceleration for a second" and this was not understood at all. People were shocked at the idea of having to start a drift BEFORE the turn.

I might have been heartbroken if every time I talked to SG players and I said "I don't like how these things work," every response I got was more than "just don't think about it lol, it doesn't actually matter lol, just push buttons lol, you don't need to do that lol."

For some reason, this attitude turned into the armchair board member we see now, where people really care about sales and steam charts for some reason, and people are so afraid of playing something that [might] suck that they wait for a game to be a massive success before touching it.

This built a culture of anti-hype, being excited for anything meant you were a rube, everything was of course going to bomb because everything bombs and if a game fails, you're stupid for having liked it or even being excited for it. No one could ever talk about anything unless it was negative.
