Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

I’m watching Beauty and the Beast, and when the townsfolk attack the castle, the pots and pans are chucking tomatoes at them or whatever, but the wardrobe obliterates a guy and they immediately cut away from it. Caught me completely off guard. It might be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in a movie

Fun fact Re: this Easy Street passage - In college, I wrote two papers on the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels: one about Jungian archetypes, and another about how Scott’s avoidance/absorption of the Negascott is kind of the whole point of his character, a kind of third-act Shakespearean climax.

Man, this was such a great year for movies. The best to ever do it just keep doin’ it. So many stuck with me and led me to read essays and history and commentary before rewatching. This year I also further explored PTA‘s and Rian Johnson’s body of work.

diet sprite should be as ubiquitous as diet coke. it's weird that we replicated the red/white wine model with sodas and then never popularized its chardonnay

Had a hell of a time trying to find Easy Street (The Hard Way) by Ron Perlman at the bookstore, which I’ve been interested in since I read a section of it while browsing years ago. Until it ships to me, I’m reaching for The Murder on the Links, a Poirot mystery I haven’t read yet.

Now reading: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. A woman tells her grown children the story of a fling she had as an actress in a summer stock theater festival, which expands into a greater story of how she met her husband, who they were before their children, what could have been, and what eventually was.

I browsed Tubi after our Columbo night last week and it is the most eclectic catalogue out there. Every suggested category is a whiplash. I love it
Tubi is such a crazy streaming service. It’s like if the Criterion Closet was in a gas station

The editing and sound design in this is so stellar. You can really just close your eyes and see it playing like a movie. Catch me as Rodney (and several other roles) in the 2025 show from The Distant Silence Radio Hour!
