Don’t misunderstand me - I love and have loved all these records, and still prefer the sound of 60s production to anything else. This new sense of them being archaic comes from listening to much more new music than I was ever inclined to before.

Actually the first Traffic album I listened to in its entirety (around 3 years ago!) Really liked this one and promised myself I’d give the others a spin. In comparison, Mr Fantasy hasn’t dated well at all.

I wonder if it’s simply the passage of time. All those late 60s bands were listening to Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker, but the old blues guys are rarely touchstones for newer artists these days. And maybe the likes of Traffic are just the new old blues guys?
