More time has passed since the release of NGD, than elapsed between that and Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1939.

The 3-1 win over Ajax in 2001 wasn’t Martin O’Neill’s first European game as Celtic coach, but it was his first statement win. After that, we knew we could compete with anyone. So, there’s a beautiful symmetry in this result (3-1 in Holland), one that likely marks his last game as interim manager.

Judee Sill died in virtual solitude 46 years ago today, November 23 1979. Her songs have the power to make us feel we are never alone. She was a complete one-off.

One of the greatest singles ever made. It has it all - sweeping strings, tragic sentiment (‘Little girl, please don’t wait for me…wait patiently for love’) and glorious refrain (‘I’m just a fool…’). An album track until Tony Blackburn hammered it on Radio 1, taking it to the top of the charts. Gold.

#NowPlaying A great four album run (67-70). Misunderstood and hugely undervalued were the Turtles. Terrific songwriting, unashamedly ‘pop’, but beautifully nuanced arrangements, playing, harmonies, and always life-affirming.

Always loved this pic - everyone moving in a different direction like it’s been put together using one of those rub-on transfer sets from the early 70s.
