Were there such a thing as the Journal of Econometric Practice (BTW, there should be) this paper would merit publication as the lead article in volume 1, number 1.
Thanks, John. Marc and I thought this was an important paper to write. It was an issue that has long bothered both of us. Hopefully it helps applied peeps think a bit more carefully about their model.

English doesn’t have a word for “how manyth” — but Dutch and a bunch of other languages do.

In Dutch you can ask, “How manyth time were you late this week?” and the answer can be simply “the third.”
