Time to hit up the watermelon festival as the county softly turns on the Murdaughs!
Today on Patreon: @jennferatu.bsky.social and @joelipsett.bsky.social are into the back half of the season as Buster Murdaugh takes center stage for "The Prince."

So beautiful, heartfelt and completely unique from so many other queer films, @conrad-esq.bsky.social and I adored CACTUS PEARS.

Seek it out if it plays near you because it’s just starting its expansion
We're venturing to rural India to discuss Rohan Kanawade's feature directorial debut, #CactusPears

This heartfelt romantic drama follows Anand as he returns home for the 10 day mourning ceremony following his father's death, reconnects with hunky Balya, and dodges invasive questions from relatives.

This doc is legit mandatory viewing for anyone who watches true crime (and maybe anyone who hates it?)

An absolutely fascinating conceit that works as its own film, as well as a deconstruction of the narrative and stylistic tropes of the subgenre
Director Charlie Shackleton makes lemonade out of lemons after losing the rights to adapt Lyndon Lafferty’s 2012 true crime novel The Zodiac Killer Cover-up AKA The Silenced Badge.

From the ashes of his abandoned doc rises a fascinating exploration of the genre itself with ZODIAC KILLER PROJECT

SALÒ is likely a one and done for me.

Watching it twice for this recording was enough to convince me that I admire and respect it, but I can’t imagine a scenario where I want to watch it again.
Wipe that shit-eating grin off your face and heed all of the content warnings (seriously), because we're discussing Pier Paolo Pasolini's notorious anti-fascist 1975 film #Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom. Tagging in for the convo is @zobowithashotgun.bsky.social, co-host of the Tainted Love podcast!

@tracedthurman.bsky.social and I are not kidding around with this.

*Hard* watch/ fascinating discussion ahead
Tomorrow on the Main Feed: we're tackling our most controversial text *ever* with Pasolini's Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom.

C/W for nearly everything (and we are not kidding around when we say that. Please take the warning seriously)

@jennferatu.bsky.social and I love a completely preventable disaster 🫠😬
On the night of April 20, 2010, over the span of nine minutes, the oil rig Deepwater Horizon experienced a cataclysmic explosion that killed 11 men, and spilled an estimated 210 million gallons of oil into the Gulf over a period of 87 days.

It is the worst oil disaster in US history.

What better way to beat the heat of a wrongful death investigation than to go on a vacation that costs more than most people’s annual income?

@jennferatu.bsky.social and I unpack MURDAUGH: DEATH IN THE FAMILY episode 3
Today on Patreon: Sing the song because we are joining the Murdaughs on a $65K vacation to the Bahamas in episode three of the Hulu series, "Kokomo."

As poor Gloria struggles back at home, the individual family members isolate themselves at the resort before an explosive dinner.

As we past the halfway point of WELCOME TO DERRY, I'm still unsure where the series is going, even if I do appreciate its focus on Black and Indigenous characters.
IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 4
It’s another week in Derry and as the show inches towards the halfway point, it’s still mostly unclear where the narrative is heading.

I enjoyed this quirky, dreamy “novella” (somewhere between a short and a feature).

It’s worth checking out if you can handle spiders!
Arachnophobes beware: we're discussing writer/director Mathieu Morel's 44 minute film ANAPIDAE (CALL ME), which is about an unusual graveyard caretaker who befriends the grieving widow of his dead lover.

Oh, and he also has a pet tarantula that appears to be growing larger (metaphor alert!)

@conrad-esq.bsky.social and I are doubling up on CRUISING.

Our Main Feed episode is free to listen to, with our $3 Patreon exclusive episode digging into hot sex, dubbing, and…James Franco 🤮
Hold onto your jockstrap because we're hunting a serial killer in the Big Apple with William Friedkin's CRUISING (1980).

Starring a 39-year old Al Pacino, the film - picketed at the time - has aged well thanks to its ambiguity.

THE SKELETON KEY isn’t a great film, but it sure is a watchable one.

A staple of the 2000s-era female-led thriller, some of the race stuff hasn’t aged super well, but Rowlands and Hudson sniping at each other is hella fun.
Lay down a line of protective brick dust and scream "I don't believe!" because we are discussing Iain Softley's 2005 Southern Gothic thriller, #TheSkeletonKey.

My fave part of this episode is @jennferatu.bsky.social’s absolutely disgusted reaction to a bunch of jellyfish being dumped in a bathtub
Today on Patreon: @joelipsett.bsky.social and @jennferatu.bsky.social kick off coverage of the Murdaugh murders by going to a high-end oyster roast and learning how to correctly pronounce Alex's name.

Discussions include: country music, southern accents, and illicit jellyfish farming
