One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

I really wound up enjoying HEDDA, which also confirms that we should continue letting DaCosta make movies and stay the fuck out of her way
Today on the #AOASPodSquad: Get out of the lake because @jennferatu.bsky.social, @genadoesthings.bsky.social, and @joelipsett.bsky.social have re-entered the Oscar race with a look at Nia DaCosta's update of Ibsen's famous play, HEDDA, starring a dazzling Tessa Thompson and a commanding Nina Hoss.

I reviewed the smutty Canadian gay hockey show (because of course I did!)

It's entertaining, but the decision to retain author Rachel Reid's hyper accelerated timeline does nothing to help the non-sexy bits.

(Thankfully the sex is pretty darn hot 🥵)
‘Heated Rivalry’ Review: Episodes 1 & 2
Trot out a sexy sporting metaphor because the Internet’s favourite gay hockey show has finally arrived.

This movie is a fucking delight and so is this audio commentary where @tracedthurman.bsky.social and I are clearly having too much fun!
Today on Patreon: Yell at the telephone operator because that's not cranberry sauce; it's our audio commentary on John Grissmer's cult classic, #BloodRage (1987), starring an unhinged Louise Lasser!

SPA NIGHT is such a quiet, devastating film.

It feels like a tragedy in slow motion and @conrad-esq.bsky.social and I really enjoyed Seo’s lead performance
Our 'Cruising' theme continues with Andrew Ahn's directorial debut, SPA NIGHT (2016).

This is a beautiful film, although David's near passivity could prove frustrating to some. Good thing Joe Seo is a captivating performer!

Shocking no one: MISERY remains as fantastic as ever 35 years later.

And it was delightful to have the iconic @rozhernandez.bsky.social join us to talk Annie Wilkes as Hagsploitation and old people’s sex lives!
Squirrel away those pills and burn that manuscript because we're talking about Rob Reiner's adaptation of Stephen King's #Misery (1990).

Joining us for the discussion is comedian @rozhernandez.bsky.social, who has begun (but maybe never finished?) every King novel.

Finally: I don’t think THIRTEEN LIVES would have been in awards contention, but it’s a really solid (harrowing) aquatic disaster flick.

Kudos to the sound team because OOF, the underwater stuff really got me
Today on the Pod: Ron Howard’s emotional film THIRTEEN LIVES chronicles the risky and controversial mission to save twelve young soccer players and their coach from the rapidly flooding Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand.

Topics include: claustrophobia, star power, and white savior narratives

Don't eat that cake because we are discussing Oz Perkins' second film of 2025, #keeper.

Written by #DangerousAnimals screenwriter Nick Lepard, this two-hander is big on vibes and short on plot, which proves more of an issue for @joelipsett.bsky.social than @tracedthurman.bsky.social

WUT?!
Scarlett Johansson will star in Mike Flanagan’s THE EXORCIST.

“Scarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to blockbusters,” said Flanagan.

The film will tell an all-new story.

Pennywise finally returned on this week’s #itwelcometoderry.

Here’s my take on a sewer heavy episode of the HBO series
‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ Episode 5 Review
Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) makes his debut on IT: Welcome to Derry in an episode that takes the action into the sewers below “Neibolt Street”.

Udo Kier has passed away at 81. A singular screen presence, Kier had a long history in the horror genre, starring in films including Mark of the Devil, Andy Warhol's Frankenstein, Blood for Dracula, Blade, Feardotcom, Rob Zombie's Halloween, and Dario Argento's Mother of Tears.
