The amount of waste on automobile infrastructure at the expense of other choices has been a huge mistake for Canada.

Don't "take" a nap. Rather, "surrender" to one.

Something about this phrasing feels more natural for me.

Such a wonderful initiative. I'll keep my eye on it.

Thanks so much

Happy early birthday!

Never heard of this. Canada does a terrible job at celebrating and remembering its heroes.

Hopefully we'll start to do better now.

Well, technically it isn't yet a year from when you posted that.

If you were not already aware, you might enjoy the Uncanny podcast by @dannyrobins.bsky.social . based out of the UK. Real ghost stories discussed in a safe, investigative environment.

It's quite good.

I've read both your books. I'm a big fan of humility, but you fill out that application expecting to deserve it.

I'm glad I was able to bring back a childhood memory.

Thanks so much for following my goofy little story! I greatly appreciate it.

The scratching grew louder and someone said “Is anyone there? I’m Murray. I’ve been lost in this house. I’ve left my scent around in case another mole picked it up, but no luck. I usually avoid rats, but could really use your help.” A mole! The Scratcher was just a little, friendly mole.

Before Brick could answer, Kammers noted a scratching noise coming from the hole he used to go upstairs The Scratcher had followed him back. Brick clearly heard it, too.
“Where’s your escape route?” asked Kammers.
Brick gulped. “I couldn’t make one yet,” he said. Both rats moved to hide.

Yes, it's exactly like that, I think. Try to bring calm to others regardless. control what we can in a positive way.

No one reads, no one follows simple instructions. They follow path of least resistance.

Retuning to the basement, Kammers yelled out, “We should leave now, Brick!
I just saw something in the walls upstairs. It snuffled after me.”
“It’s your imagination. There’s no creature, no scratching, and no odour.”
“I never mentioned an odour, Brick. How did you know about it?”

He froze in fear as he saw a dark mass moving ahead, and the now familiar snuffling noise reached his ears. As it turned towards him, his flight instinct kicked in and he spun around to flee back to the basement. He was sure he could hear the claws behind him as he ran.

Kammers searched the old house slowly for food. The stink that he now associated with the Scratcher seemed to be everywhere he went. Hunger dared him to move more quickly in the darkness until he turned one corner and stopped dead in his tracks…

When Kammers awoke and detected the Scratcher’s odour, he kept it to himself in case Brick chastised him again. “I’ll go get some food, Brick,” he said. “Are you going to plan some escape routes?”
“Yeah,” said Brick who was being unusually agreeable. “I need to get to that.”

Brick lay awake listening, but thankfully there were no more disturbances. Eventually Kammers awoke and sniffed the air but to Brick’s surprise said nothing about the lingering smell. Brick noted that his brother’s stomach was grumbling just as loudly as his own.
