Take a gander at how we load a frozen grid with vitrified sample into the Gatan Elsa CryoHolder for our Talos L120C system. One of the toughest training aspects for CryoEM is teaching the fine motor skills to manipulate your sample safely.

I like that the same day a guy was like “this place will never be Twitter” this thread gave us the most 2015 Twitter experience (complimentary) imaginable.
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

Truly one of the greatest scientific images I have ever seen
Our new paper (with @biotay.bsky.social) is out and on the cover story of @currentbiology.bsky.social !!!! Veronika, a Carinthian mountain cow flexibly uses a “multi-purpose tool” to scratch herself. A video and more information will follow in the comments.

Join me with my hands-on work aligning our Talos L120C TEM, ensuring the instrument is ready for some negative stain analysis.
This can be automated, but it is a good sanity check when gauging the quality of your optics.

What’s cooler than being cool? Ice. ❄️🧊
In cryo-EM, vitrified ice preserves hydration and near-native structures so we can image biology at atomic scale. We avoid crystals… but when one appears, it’s a reminder of the clever science we use to get these images.
