I've seen a few with requirements of the exact type of projects that the portfolio needs to contain, types of artefacts they want to see (i.e. customer journey maps etc), types of projects (healthcare, etc).

Way more hyper specific that I've ever experienced looking for a job ever before.

It's the very specific 'your portfolio must show...' requirements that are making me 🤔 lately.

In an ideal world I won't be unemployed long enough to complete these tasks, but I'm also being pragmatic.

Additionally, I haven't had any long lengths of time off since 2018 (when husband and I moved from the UK to Canada, without jobs lined up). I'm kinda looking forward to it

That's all I have for now but I've got more interviews next week and plenty of in-flight applications so I'll hopefully have more to share soon.

Might be the nature of where I'm applying but also jumping right into main interview seems to be more common, foregoing the HR/recruiter screen. I'm sometimes going into interviews with nothing more than my own research about the company.

Definitely less "sell" to the interviewee atm.

So far no run ins with extreme unprofessional people. But there is a sense of rushedness. "Do you have time to stay on longer?" doesn't seem like an appropriate ask right now from either side.

I am seeing STAR answer oriented questions in HR/recruiter screens now. Last time I interviewed the recruiter/HR screen was far less structured, and was basically me reiterating my CV instead of direct questions about specific experiences.

Brush up on STAR answering job seekers.

Longest gap from application to first interview so far:
23 days, and this has happened for 2 organisations.

A third org I decided to not interview with also would have been a longer gap as it took 21 days for them to respond to my application.

Also it's nice to be nice? Interviewing is also work, it takes time and a lot of people do it poorly, for whatever reason. Thanking someone for a good interview hopefully makes it easier for them.

Last thing to do in the next 2 weeks is figure out my start availability for freelance work. I'm going to need a break after this redundancy consultancy, it's draining.

I know "spray and pray" is not a good method.

I had referrals for just 3 of these jobs. My network is aware and keeping an eye out for me, but ultimately there's just not many hiring in my network atm.
