You had to know that stuff was there, though. It wasn't piped directly on to your screen unless you chose it, and I think that's why the old Internet feels better.

The first time I played FAILER when it came out, I kept repeating "Six O'clock News" three or four times before I even got into the rest of the album.

Holy crap, finally! They've only had the SNES version that kind of sucks, IMO.

All of this to say, I think Hegseth is a complete tool and his rant about the Scouts is absurd, but not, sadly, because the Scouts have been truly pushing against things. They've made good, positive steps. I hope it continues. I hope they ignore Hegseth. But that's as far as I go.

With my own children, despite my own positive experiences with my own troop, I've never even considered pushing them towards Scouting. The organization has done better in recent decades, but only in the same, slow way that most of our society has.

I remember my own personal 'last straw' moment with the NC Boy Scouts came after I was in college and saw the state convention happening in Greensboro with special guest speaker Oliver North. I was done at that point.

While I wouldn't describe my troop as liberal, there were worse things in the periphery. Once, while dealing with funding cuts from the United Way, a district head came to an awards ceremony to solicit donations by talking about the race and sexual orientation of UW members in charge of funding.

I was lucky to be in a really good den and troop during my years. We regularly did camping trips, worked hard on merit badges, learned a lot of practical skills and things. I never did finish my Eagle award, but that's the hazard of turning 16 and not doing it sooner.
