this is kind of what I meant when I said TPA persists because of the allure of off-book money and dodgy accounting; the TPA's profits are fictional, and embedding BikeShare's costs in the TPA doesn't eliminate them, it's just torturing the spreadsheet until it screams.

A fair question! If Green P hadn't existed back then, possible Bike Share Toronto doesn't exist today. But *today*, I think the answer is we fold bikeshare into the TTC and call it part of the city's core mobility network — it think it's too big to kill ouright, now. bsky.app/profile/cycl...
But what might this mean for Bike Share Toronto? The program once known as BIXI was saved from bankruptcy by the Toronto Parking Authority and has since blossomed into the 3rd biggest in North America (by annual trips).

I'm coming around to a theory of populism that is less about specific macroeconomic levers or whatnot and more "a bunch of stuff in our lives just needs to ask less of us"

I was brought short by the assertion that you NEEDED a big expensive fat home broadband package simply to participate in modern life

No you don't! I spent more than a decade on DSL, years after Bell started wiring my street for fiber!

BUT you do need to figure out how to make that work for you.

Blue states are net losing population to red states, a trend that goes back for decades but accelerated in the last decade!
