I mean he's totally right, I got into hockey at age 10 in 1983, got a jersey for my 12th birthday, had my signed photo of Felix Potvin up in my Carleton dorm room, all as part of my long con to never interact with a pro hockey player except high fiving Curtis Lazar that one time.

But if my husband and I could have simultaneous but separate baths in the same room (our mudroom of course) I might actually be into it.

The one on the left is what my grandpa's sock knitting on DPNS looked like to me as a kid before I learned to knit 😂 What is this BS?????

Part of my religious upbringing was understanding that God gives us the ability to help ourselves, and others, as a valuable part of the human experience. If we have to give up vaccines should we not also give up toilet paper and go back to squatting, as nature intended? Who decides?

Condo towers definitely not affordable. No changes to traffic or transit planned, but adding two condo towers worth of people to same traffic infrastructure is generally considered not ideal. Parts of the Great Lawn taken to be used for an events centre.

Perhaps it's not fair of me but my perception is that they want to improve Lansdowne in a way that makes them more money, and other considerations be damned.

Ooooh I see you have Ottawa hockey content as well, nice!

The mayor and city council are agreeing to a lot of stuff in this new plan that are widely considered not in the best interest of the people who live in Ottawa, but have been asked for by OSEG, a million dollar company that runs most of Lansdowne.

There's currently a plan to do a lot of changes at Lansdowne including changing the arena to have less seats (possibly demolishing current one and building a smaller one, I'm fuzzy on those details). The Charge are not thrilled.

Canadian here, perhaps poorly educated, I would never think to boil the water in the kettle, I'd put the pot on the stove to boil assuming (and never checking) that the "hob" was "stove" in British English.

My question might be, is this sense of entitlement that Disney should be affordable a positive for the parks, or a negative?
October 30, 2025 at 8:29 PM
I understand why zoos and museums are perceived as being something that should be accessible for most but there's an interesting entitlement to Disney. Disney is out of my price range like Chanel is, but I don't log on every day to check out the Chanel news.

If hotel prices and show tickets go up in New York, I don't think there are pieces about "how NYC is pricing out the middle class". Disney is a luxury product that is perceived as achievable; do they want that, or do they want to be perceived as luxury?
October 30, 2025 at 8:27 PM
People generally understand that most businesses want to charge the maximum price they can get for their product. Disney is different; there is an expectation that it *should* be accessible to a large number of people. Might be interesting to talk about why.

There's some sort of illness going around - for me it started with one very sleepy day, then next day a lot of nose blowing. I know a lot of people who have been/are sick in Ottawa right now. I'd say give it a day or two and see if any other symptoms develop. Hope you feel great tomorrow though!
