I'm an unenrolled progressive on the actual left. | Mostly I listen to rock from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. But I like most music, | I'm a gun owner. | I have a dog named Toast! | AuDHD | Home of the best lobsters in the world!
Hegseth's pardon is likely already signed.

Go to war? Probably not but attack that nation? Likely.

It's not about Hegseth, it's about protecting that policy for everyone.

It's like the 1st amend, if I want it, I have to protect the racist aholes too.

I am not in favor of this policy.

No, Trump has likely already signed pardons for every single person that we would put on trial. Why would any of them do what they are doing if they didn't already know Trump will save them?

This would not be happening if not for his pardon powers.

Me too! My wife frequently reminds me that I have an unusually large selection of shoes for a man! 😆 I have about twice as many shoes than she does. 😁

Netanyahu had to take a very complicated path to fly to the US just for that reason as did Putin. Arresting a current or former US president would be considered an act or war under any administration and we have made it clear that such action would be met with military force.

No one wants that.
November 30, 2025 at 6:31 PM
You should not count on that. We are very unlikely to put a former president on trial.
November 30, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Yes, they just won't be tried under other laws.

Good luck putting an 80 someodd year old former President on trial for this. It's just not going to happen and before you say no, imagine how it was that Garland dragged his feet for years, without Biden's order to do just that.
November 30, 2025 at 6:24 PM
No, it's not the opinion of one person, it was the opinion of the President of the United States who COULD have signed the ICC but choose not to for the same reasons Bush, Biden, and Trump refused to sign it.

I would say that should have been up to Congress but it would be of no help here. 🤷‍♂️

Giving every American a $100 deductible on federal taxes would be more likely than $100 in cash. I like your thinking though.
November 30, 2025 at 6:08 PM
People balk at this but armed citizens outnumber soldiers 100-1 and we cannot use large ordinances in our own granny's backyards. Drones would be a problem but the US military struggled in Afghanistan for 2 decades and that was tens of thousands of fighters, not a hundred million.
November 30, 2025 at 5:48 PM
He really, really, really cannot do that. He might be able to hold a few cities but most guns are in most cities so that's not an easy feat. He sent 4k NG and 700 Marines to LA county with it's 600+k mostly liberal gun owners.

The US military couldn't take New England let alone the entire nation.
November 30, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Suspending the basic functions of how America works by not holding elections would be like declaring war on citizens, 100m of whom own 500m guns. There will be elections or civil war, and there are only 1.4 million soldiers, assuming none go AWOL.

The fear of this is the only good point of 2A.

The Japanese and Germans committed far worse war crimes during WWII than shooting survivors.
November 30, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Our option here is impeachment and Republicans in Congress are not going to do that.
November 30, 2025 at 5:35 PM
The US is not a signatory to the ICC.
November 30, 2025 at 5:34 PM
The US is not even a signatory to the ICC. That should tell you all you need to know about how we will treat Hegseth.
November 30, 2025 at 5:33 PM
...can't afford Maine lobster and also not kidding, some Americans think Maine is not a real state. 🙄
November 30, 2025 at 5:31 PM
There are many more times armed people in Maine than in Greenland - Maine would invade and take Greenland all by itself. As a Mainer, I would never want to see that, but also as a Mainer, don't f*ck with our lobster boats or we will invade! Probably in lobster boats! 😂

Kidding, most Americans...

What war did the US win in the last couple of decades? We murdered a million people in Iraq and didn't really accomplish anything. We spent two decades and $2T in Afghanistan and didn't do shit.
November 30, 2025 at 5:24 PM
The US is not a signatory to the ICC so that matters little.
November 30, 2025 at 5:22 PM
We are not a signatory to the ICC and would never allow an American to be tried in a foreign court over crimes like that. Both major parties support this policy.
November 30, 2025 at 5:21 PM
That doesn't matter, the US is not a signatory to the ICC and would never allow an American to be tried in a foreign court for such charges. Democrats support this policy as well, it's not just Republicans.
November 30, 2025 at 5:19 PM
We're not technically at war, so war crimes don't count, and even if they did, the US isn't a signatory to the ICC, and not even Obama or Biden would have allowed an American to be tried in a foreign court for such charges.
