Trump is taking money we use to house people, money we use to *prevent* homelessness, and requiring it be spent instead on policing homelessness.

This election showed that residents want action and collaboration, not division or delay, and they expect us to govern with compassion and never lose sight of our neighbors who are struggling.

True. I've had my share of those types too. But I don't think I've ever been thanked by someone who disagreed with me when knocking in another state.

I think part of it is that there's often much less info in local races, so canvassers play a real role in just informing people.

I've knocked several local doors where the voter tells me they can't stand my candidate, are hopping mad at him, and will never ever vote for him.

Then they sincerely thank me for canvassing and I sincerely thank them for being a voter. 🤷‍♀️

As far as I can tell, the people fighting hardest against housing are rich enough to not care.

They won't be the ones who can't afford a home health aide when they need one because no one is willing to commute 3 hrs daily to do that work, and no one who does it can afford to live locally.

I've tried to make the case that retail and service prices here are downstream of commercial rents, obviously, but also of housing costs, and so homeowners (especially retirees) also have an interest in curbing rent increases so that in person services like restaurants and salons don't get pricier.

Instead of getting bogged down in debates over each councilor's pet housing priority, they passed a significant reform, enabling more housing citywide and finally undoing the racist, classist, anti-immigrant exclusionary zoning that has contributed to the housing crisis for decades.
