Writing something a little silly in a modern setting has given me too much power, because it means I can reasonably justify banter like this:

Duality of dog-woman:

My parents rediscovering old photos means more of Max and Mona bein' goofs:

These two were 10 when I was born. They were very gentle with me in the 8.5 years we lived together.

They'd also get into quarterly "boxing matches" with their sibling that clarified how gentleness was an active choice. 😅🤣

Lucy had surgery on the 27th, but the healing on her incisions is good enough that she can now wear a dog-onesie instead of a semi-rigid cone.

That's nice because 1) she can eat, drink, snuggle, etc without reduced mobility and 2) she'll have dinosaurs or sharks on—Yara + I visited on a dino day. 😆

TL;DR - I agree with you.

I also think that deliberately turning the always-avail "product mode" OFF sometimes is *absurdly* useful re: the ability to feel agency over your work as an artist.
Black text in Arial font against a white field that reads as follows: I feel like there *is* a medial point, but it's one where folks end up having to cut off perpetual availability—which I get is scary from the perspective of "Oh, but I need to always be guesting, or streaming, or XYZ." I've never been able to ride the "5,000 side hustles" train because my objectively-pretty-broken old man body plainly doesn't let me—but I'm also someone who isn't consistently booking anything Big (by virtue of having a niche voice type and, candidly, being detectably trans in a time when a lot of companies don't want that). I know I would lose my mind if I tried to pour all of my focus into "Well, how do I get on [xyz]'s radar?" "Why am I seemingly getting close but not booking stuff like [x]?" etc. Whether or not I book isn't a thing I can 100% control, and I'm almost always outgunned by folks who do about what I do, but are more established/sound more staunchly [masc/femme]/have existing "draw" (re: audience). There's no point in psychologically torturing myself over any of it, nor is there any point about feeling disappointed, embittered, or in any way "threatened" by my peers, who—at the end of the day—also can't control when they book. But I can control if, when, and how I make things with folks around me. My primary career goal is "Make cool things with good people," not "Book a lead/playable character/con-invite-garnering whatevertheheck," so the extremely long periods of ostensible "drought" don't obliterate my drive or determination because, left to my own devices, I'll eventually start making art of my own accord. I'll go steal a couple friends! We'll make a thing! It'll be fun! And we do it because it brings us all joy and keeps us some level of sane—because being creative people is endemic to who we are as human beings more than it is a job.

The key thing's that none of them are *just* that once you get to know them.

I made a frankly silly volume of these during development of the v2.0 demo for "Undergrowth" (4 of which included here)—Death Generator is legitimately incredible for when you need to create concerningly specific nonsense. 😌🤣
