And that's what makes the anti-trans sports stuff so clearly bullshit. Everyone on the "actually, there are some valid concerns!" side of things is cheering on this 61-year-old lady no longer getting to hag out with her friends and play tennis.

The thing about all the anti-trans sports panic: people argue this stuff while talking about elite level sports, but because there aren't actually a ton of superhuman trans women blowing away the competition, the people actually affected end up being those who play sports for fun/socialization

Stripping this out doesn’t purify your economics; it blinds you to how the economy actually functions.

What’s more, the right will attack any left economic program as radical/woke/socialist regardless of how carefully you distance yourself. This should be trivially obvious.

Mass incarceration is an economic issue. Housing discrimination is an economic issue. Healthcare disparities are economic.

The precarity, deindustrialization, and anemic economic access that are driving populist rage hit marginalized communities first—they were the canary in the coal mine.

Any viable left-populist economic coalition in a diverse polity has to include people whose economic exploitation is experienced through racialized and gendered forms.

You can’t ask them to bracket out those concerns as a precondition for solidarity that… just doesn’t make any goddamn sense.
