Plays with toy soldiers.
What a great looking collection Des, looking forward to seeing them in action via your battle reports. I am working on some Soviets myself:

Today was about Hussars in the Sudan desert. Holding until the right moment, they sprang into action akin to a verse from a Newbolt poem in our Victorian game. They charged into the rear of units of warriors scattering them, wheeling around to confronting camel cavalry & chasing them off too.

This weekend’s painting project, (between rugby games), some Soviet Naval Infantry, Scouts & leaders in #20mm for #ChainofCommand. Very pleased how they’ve turned out, nice variations in uniforms & equipment. #spreadthelard.

Some of the action from today’s game, #Carnevale always gives an entertaining game and has lots of re-playability.

Today we are off to Venice again for a game of #Carnevale which sees a #Guild civil war here the Capodecina will try to put some manners on a bunch of wayward #Pulcinella, with the #Strigoi joining in to take advantage of the situation.

Clearly I am keen on the Sherman tank, as I prepare these for @tomjmegan.bsky.social’s #FestiveTankChallange.

Tonight at #CLWC I had a great experience with my first game of the #Napoleonic rule set #EmperoroftheBattlefield playing the author Ian, with the help of Richard, I managed to wrangle the British in to some sort of defensive arrangement and get totally stream rolled by the very efficient French.

My British Army of the Rhine force is coming on very nicely almost a year to the day since I was introduced to Battlegroup Northag at #Fiasco this time last year.

I wonder if @perbroden.bsky.social , @stormofsteel.bsky.social or any other #6mm maestro could suggest ways to represent BAOR 1980s DPM camouflage uniforms in 6mm? Many thanks in advance.

A little side project of some LRDG troopers & DAK officers for #ChainofCommand in the Desert or solo games of #DAKAttack. Really enjoyed painting up these little guys.

With HE fire from the Panzer and mortar, along with a sustained fire MG34 pouring more misery on the Royal Irish Fusilier positions, as a flank attack crashed home the situation became untenable, and their Force Morale began collapsed giving victory to the Germans. #spreadthelard
October 13, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Despite coming under fire from two sides and concentrated Bren fire driving the Panzer back. The British failed to inflict enough damage on the German units in their spirted defence. With teams being wiped out their Force Morale began to fall.

Following the success in the assault on Essars, in the next game of #ChainofCommand the Germans, keen to press home their advantage, pushing forward on both flanks at Gorre to force the Royal Irish Fusiliers to deploy early. As they rushed forward supported by a Panzer III… #spreadthelard.
October 13, 2025 at 5:25 PM
As the Germans pushed forward, a preregistered bombardment on the crossroads causing two German Zugs to be pinned. Despite this they maintained pressure on the defensive positions killing the British Senior Leader. At this the Royal Irish Fusiliers decided to withdraw to the next Map.
October 13, 2025 at 2:01 PM
The British kept their power dry and waited for the Germans to offer a flank. They opened up hitting the Panzer II but failing to penetrate until the 3rd shot. This gave the Germans the opportunity to respond in kind a return fire, resulting in in the death of the gunners’ J/L…

I was sad to miss #Partizan at the weekend, so I got #ChainofCommand out and played an Attack and Defend scenario depicting the Royal Irish Fusiliers defending the outskirts of Essars from elements of the 7th Panzer Division. The Germans made an confident start pushing up with armour & infantry.

Nevertheless, on the right flank I had a bit more success as my Voltigeurs skirmished back and forth with Grenzers until I could bring my Chasseurs to bare and drive the Austrians off before my Force Morale collapsed. Good old #SharpPractice always supplies a entertaining game.
#spreadthelard.
October 7, 2025 at 8:58 PM
…it didn’t end well for them. The Austrian commander came out first the next round, followed by by some flags for Sharp Practice, visiting more than pIain on the French column. What are people experience of “playing the period and not the rules” when commanding French Columns?
October 7, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Okay, here’s my first experience of fighting a Napoleonic game of #SharpPractice. As I understand it the French were famed for attacking in columns, well lets give it a go then, so I simply charged down the road in column hoping to crash into the Austrians before they could unleash their volleys…

Finally, the last bits and pieces of US Battalion & Company Command bases along with some Support options. for #OGroup. #SpreadtheLard
October 6, 2025 at 7:15 PM
I opted for two tanks per base and am very happy with the way they turned out. Additionally, I’m going to try using larger infantry bases moving to the 60mm x 40mm base from a 30mm x 15mm base size. Not sure what it will add beyond improving the aesthetics of the game.

The #BigWing of Spitfires and Hurricanes on display earlier today at IWM Duxford, most impressive to see so many warbirds in the air together.

Mayhem ensues in our second face to face game in our #AlienRPG campaign. All great fun as PCs narrowly avoided getting their heads bitten off by a disgruntled lion worm. Huge thanks to the guys at the @badmooncafe.bsky.social who took such great care of us.
