1/3Jim Bolger is, as is to be expected, coming in for an avalanche of praise. His biggest positive contribution to Aotearoa was undoubtedly his championing of the Treaty of Waitangi and the need for Pakeha New Zealand to learn and understand its history.

Some quotes from New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon:

• “The world doesn’t owe you a living”
• “I'm wealthy, I'm ‒ you know ‒ sorted.”
• “just make a marmite sandwich”
• “I don’t care.” (said multiple times since becoming PM)

The type of friend that when he sees one of his friends kicking another "friend" to death says: "I'll give a gold coin donation towards your funeral."

We have moral amoebas for leaders.
We watch a people go through an attempted genocide, and we sit back and say you are no people. You have no state.

For you see, we are friends with both you and your murderer.

The state’s monopoly on violence is so taken for granted that in all the thousands of words I’ve read condemning the killing of Charlie Kirk none have mentioned the more than 20,000 victims of the US’s drone assassination campaign.

Europe is channelling its inner Chamberlain, Sanchez is honouring the memory of the International Brigades. The US had a term for it in the 1930s "premature anti-fascism."
The costs of antagonising Donald Trump likely outweigh the benefits, murmur people in Madrid’s foreign-policy establishment. Did Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s prime minister, need to pick a lonely fight at the NATO summit, they ask?

This act shows a complete contempt for international law. But then so does the US's extrajudicial killing of alleged drug traffickers last week and its drone assassination campaign under successive presidents going back to Bush senior that has killed an estimated 20,000 people.
