Wannabe novelist, foul mouthed story teller, dad and recovering dirtbag I sometimes write something interesting at: https://in-the-pines.ghost.io
Should’ve wrote “this level of redneck nostalgia…” that would read better.

I need my notebook and I need to take notes and I need to remember not to give this shit away completely for free. This level of nostalgia is fucking content.

The number 39 is Mary Chapin Carpenter “Going Out Tonight” and man I need a fuckin Time Machine.

Holy shit it was the episode where Sammy Keeshaw debuted on the Top 40

I mean of course I do right. It’s my brand. But man how is it I randomly pick the episode with what was genuinely one of my favorite songs of the era was number one.

And when was the last time a sad ass song like that was number one on a country chart?

Someone’s gotta have it on YouTube right?
We should get high and watch that shit.

The dorkiest motherfucker you’d ever seen in your life, look like a dentist at church, would introduce “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight.”

I could be imagining this because we didn’t have cable so I only saw it when I was out of school sick at my Pawpaws place.

Yea they seem to go out of their way to be antagonistic around here. I don’t like the fact that I get lumped in with them to be honest because God its bad.

Folks don’t believe me but I was SHOCKED when I moved here how bad the hunting culture is.

One of the most fun I’ve ever had was a day shooting sporting clays on a similar setup in Kentucky.

They are SO freakin bad here about shooting at anything that moves. There’s so much shooting. Just a shocking amount of gunfire and I do not understand why they’re like this.

There was an absolute MONSTER in my spot in Massachusetts. Went to sleep under one of my trail cameras one night. Never could catch him in the daylight. Saw him once just before shooting hours. Knew it was him because it was the biggest goddamned silhouette Id ever seen. Like a mule.

Shit I’ve never shot a deer before 10am come to think of it. And my six point was at high noon almost on the dot.

I’ll be sitting close to a big scrape Monday morning. Just a question of when they wander by and how long they’ll linger to let me set up a shot. Sometimes they don’t want to stop and you just gotta let em go.

My property borders on a huge lease with food plots and automatic feeders and box blinds the size of my first apartment. They won’t feed on my property. So I scout their routes from food to bed. Find where the bucks are scraping and set up.

I’m shooting Federal flight control because I have cases left over from my LE shooting days.

My 1894 is still sitting at my mom’s house in the off chance I ever get to deer hunt Louisiana again.

God I wanna go home. I’d be posting this from my deer camp if I was.

I’d love to have a pawn shop .30-30 but the gun nerds have decided (rightly) that lever guns are cool now and they’re almost impossible to find for a reasonable price anymore.

We’re shotgun or black powder only in MA. So I’ll be shooting buckshot Monday. I tend to just hunt with my back powder because it’s scoped but I put a red dot on my shotgun that hasn’t gotten use yet.
November 30, 2025 at 12:23 AM
Oooo.
Wonder if I can get my VA doc to write up my shoulder injury in a way that the state would accept it for an archery license.

100% disabled because of missing intestines and asshole apparently doesn’t count as “disabled” for MA cross bow licensing.

I can’t call my shot so I’m not comfortable shooting at a living creature. My yard isn’t big enough to practice longer shots and I just don’t have the time or money to spend weekends on a 3d range when there’s a scoped black powder in the gun cabinet.
November 30, 2025 at 12:21 AM
I shoot close.
Truth is I hunt thick brush and every shot I’ve taken is within archery range. I can get close to bucks.
