He won't embarrass "this other politician" but he has no problem embarrassing himself, by gleefully recounting a story of Trump patronizingly dominating him like he's a nine year old and how he said yes sir, can I have another sir. Cool.

That and there are multiple other reasons for doing it there as well, sometimes they need two IVs, and sometimes it's just to be more manageable for the patient especially if it's in there for a while, easier to move the arm around. Definitely IV in any case, recognizable instantly.
