Speaking as they do, however, and deliberately eliding the voices of those who disagree with them - that's erasure of women, very clearly.

I have friends in Gaza who have somehow managed to keep their pets alive through two years of famine. What else d we expect people to do? They're members of the family - and they have a big role to play in providing psychological support at times of extreme stress.

It's a stunning photo. Also, I'm struck by how much the berg resembles a tumbled gemstone or a piece of sea glass.

I find it odd that this (otherwise good) article never once mentions seaweed. We live on an island; it's cheap and easily accessible. My favourite Japanese snacking seaweed carries a warning against eating multiple packs per day because of the risk of getting too much iodine that way.

A sycamore seed took root in my parents' garden when I was about two. By the time I was ten, it was three times my height and really strong, a great climbing tree. It had a really good branch where I often used to sit and read or collect aphids for frogs I was raising.

Thank you to all the allies who stand with us today, and to every individual intersex person brave enough to speak up and claim space. One day we will live in a world which puts science and humanity first and doesn't go all out to erase those who are inconvenient. #IntersexDayOfSolidarity

The nonsensical idea that sex can be defined by gamete production (many intersex people don't produce any), or that everybody has a 'true sex' which might not match the way they look or feel, denies intersex people's lived realities and creates completely unnecessary trauma.
