Maybe Don’t Talk to the New York Times About Zohran Mamdani
It’s remarkable, the people you’ll hear from. Teach for even a little while at an expensive institution—the term they tend to prefer is “elite”—and odds are that eventually someone who was a studen…

#ElemMathChat - The "tried and true" math language routines like stronger and clearer, collect and display, and three reads are always good to have in the discourse toolbox. When I work with novice teachers, I usually suggest that they normalize using instructional & math language routines.

A few strategies:
-using turn & talks to allow students to rehearse and also cross pollinate ideas
- using “math talk” moves (eg rephrasing, repeating, etc)
- using math language routines, like stronger & clearer and collect & display
- sentence frames

I'm Jenna, and I need to finish kid bedtime but I miss #ElemMathChat! One good thing today: I spent some time developing an interview assessment with a colleague that I adore.

Friends— here it is. Updated & expanded thanks to the space afforded to me in the @therumpus.net & the guidance of the brilliant @roxanegay.bsky.social’s edits. The win centers Muslims humanity — but what does that mean in a country that rejects that?

I am so upset.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
To be asked to write about racism only to be racially aggressed in the editing process is a new level unlocked I have to say.
