Yes, I know. The main reason for our move is that I have been disabled by Long Covid.
But we were destroying school and learning before Covid hit, so I was staying on topic. 😉

For Reasons, we moved from a crowded urban area we loved—with crowded, competitive schools we didn't—back to the rural state where I grew up, and I can see my kids re-engaging in all kinds of ways. It is WILD.
It's not a scalable solution, but over-measuring and -managing childhood is not The Way.

My kids are 8 and 12 and we already worry about this. It feels to me like a bone-deep level of burnout—as in, when everyone says, "aren't we all a little ND?" it's because we are *all* overstimulated and undersupported. (Plus, Covid shreds the nervous system, but that's still "controversial.")

My 8yo had a Thanksgiving "feast" at school, and it was awful, so I'm making a turkey and a few sides tomorrow so he knows feast food doesn't have to suck. Cornbread and sausage stuffing, fresh turkey, riced and mashed potatoes blended with too much butter, etc.
