There is a whodunit short story by Melville Davisson Post that turns on this truth. It's set not long after the Revolution so it was more apparent then than it is now.

I was in radio news back in the FD days. Many folks here long for it to return, not realizing what the effects would be. I think the same is true of most anti 230 people. That, as zen noted, most of the examples you gave aren't 230 related, is what gave rise to my comment. 1/

IIRC this was the Lizzie Borden approach to their domestic help. I remember reading somewhere that Bridget Sullivan's name wasn't really Bridget. The Bordens called all their maids Bridget over the years since that had been the first maids name.
