@jef parking structures cost $50-100k per spot. Maybe more in San Francisco. You can pay for a lot of free ebikes that way. I am internally advocating for such a scheme at work, due to severe parking crunch, instead of more parking spots.

Having an e-bike solves parking as a personal problem. Encouraging use of e-bikes solves parking as a political problem. And because it's linked to housing policy, parking policy is a huge political problem.

Originally, anti-housing activism was about racism. These days it's about 98% not wanting to lose free on-street parking.
