Records. Concerts. Baseball. TV.
My elementary and junior high school art teachers had him as a student and at least the latter made several comments trying to hype up their impact on him.

Tonight I heard Mary Lou Lord's "I Figured You Out" on WLUW and felt an absence when the DJ talked about it but didn't mention it being written by Elliott Smith because I cannot not think about him when I hear it. Terrific tune.

I have been trying to make sense of this Discogs seller for too long.

Excellent articulation echoing my thoughts on boring celebrity podcasts.

I spent years on radio mostly in music programming, considered myself a bad interviewer, and eventually moved along. But I don't think I was worse than several celebrity hosts who clearly have no idea what they're doing.
The dirty little secret is that many podcasts are just (poorly executed) talk shows by another name

The evolution of the podcast is really the de-evolution of not only radio but TV as well

This week's newsletter, with a look at Pete Davidson's new so-called "podcast" for Netflix

Pamela Hute popped in my head earlier and I was pleasantly reminded by how much I liked her Bandit album.

There's an apartment on my street that still has a lit Christmas tree every evening. Two blocks away one house has two nativity scenes in the yard and a Santa on the porch. Across the street from that is a 12-foot skeleton wearing a Santa hat. In a few hours it'll be February.

So far, by far, the worst part of parenting is when the whole family is sick. I can barely get myself from bed to the bathroom to puke. How am I supposed to care for this child too?!

There's a quick reference to the Ostend Manifesto in a book I am reading. I had never heard of it, so looked it up. Huh.

Sometime this afternoon a saucepan showed up on the edge of the sidewalk outside my house. We have so many questions! Was it dropped? Put there purposely to fuck with us? Every human and dog that walks by at least glances at it.

Tonight's TV watching was Andor's "Who Are You" and "Welcome to the Rebellion" followed by Righteous Gemstones' "He Goeth Before You Into Galilee." Hell of an evening.

Maybe the biggest surprise while watching Penny Dreadful is that the actor who plays Dr. Jekyll is also Clem Fandango.

4 Amazon vans have driven past my home in the last 2 minutes. I can't wrap my head around efficiency in delivery service logistics with that sort of thing regularly happening.

Last week I saw a Discogs seller with 2 pop albums from my wantlist, so I checked their For Sales and the first 50+ were all hardcore/punk. Then I checked their website to see about ordering direct and it's a head shop with no mention of records anywhere. Fast shipping, though!

I still can't get over looking through network TV listings for New Year's Day and not seeing any bowl games.

Tonight I saw Old 97s and heard no less than 10 lyrics that a long time ago were some of my AIM away messages.

Earlier this year I found an awesome record shop near my partner's mom's house. No luck today, but did hear a kid ask his friend "Does At the Drive-In have another good song?"

Belle & Sebastian playing If You're Feeling Sinister the same night as a real (not fest) Rilo Kiley show could be quite the dilemma for Chicago concertgoers of a certain age.

#manholecovermonday This past weekend I walked on a sidewalk in my hometown that I never knew existed before.

I've flown to/from O'Hare over 230 times and have no recollection of ever using an elevator there. But one trip with a stroller changed that big time. I felt like a first-time traveler in a way.

Many tapes I made were "I like you" mixes disguised as "check this out" mixes because I knew the recipient didn't know most or any of the songs. And I made enough legit "check this out" mixes for plausible deniability.
Great thread, but I feel like we don't talk enough about mixtapes as a medium of communication of non romantic ideas. E.g. emotional support mixtapes. And "Check *this* out" themed mixtapes in an era when new artist discovery could be *very* difficult
Back when the Deep Magic was written, including REM’s Nightswimming or more than 3 Peter Gabriel OR Indigo Girls songs was code for “I love you.” The tape could be placed in the crush’s locker or “accidentally” left behind in their car, to be experienced in absentia so as not to ruin it.

The Google Street View car just drove by and is one of the very few vehicles that has come to a complete stop at the intersection lately.

Last week I had a surgery. Today is the followup. I've been sent more reminders about the followup than the actual surgery. Do a lot of people really not follow up on surgeries?

Beginning tomorrow, I am on paternity leave until January. That'll be the longest I haven't worked in 20+ years and I am terrified I am going to enjoy the break so much I'll be miserable on my return.

I have done more trick-or-treat negotiating this year than ever. Like, take a few pieces but not handfuls. Who are these kids?!

My MLB account is set for No Spoilers so that I can watch games in the morning. So what happens immediately when I turn on the condensed version of an 18-inning game?? Sidebar captioned "Freddie Freeman's Walk-Off Home Run." C'mon, @mlb.com!
