Suburban sprawl was invented in an era when seniors simply *did not exist*: US life expectancy in 1950 was just 68. Transportation and housing policy in sprawling suburbs are not at all prepared for what happens next.

Living Older, Healthier, Happier.
Having worked in over 350 cities, I've developed 5 actions for WELL-BEING:
• Eat more green based
• Sleep 7-9 hrs
• Socialize
• Contact with green
• Physical activity
Cities everywhere can make these actions 'the easy option' through infra + programs.

When Massachusetts needed more housing;

In the 1700s, we built new neighborhoods on nearby land with a variety of housing types. (Most illegal today)

In the 1800s, we built triple deckers across the region. (Most illegal today)

As soon as I got an e-bike in 2019, I began commuting on it 5 days a week instead of 1 day/week on my regular bike.

This also doesn’t even account for hilly cities like Seattle and SF where e-bikes suddenly open the doors to many more routes around town.
The “E-Bike Effect:” Those who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%.

E-bikes support fewer car trips.

They are not 'cheating,' but are serious transportation.

I arrive here having finished a major, multi-month project: creating a posters in a hachure style reminiscent of centuries past. Have a look: terrainlines.etsy.com.

There's a free ebook, too! somethingaboutmaps.wordpress.com/2024/10/31/a...

If you could share them around, I would be grateful!

This part of the Strand in London used to be a congested road for cars. Now it’s a magnetic place for people.

Good trade.

It can feel hard to muster the vision and leadership needed for smart urban change. But it pays off with a better city. Gorgeous pic by @livinglondonhis.

Great urban design goes beyond functionality, weaving joy into the experience of everyday use.

Despite the freezing cold, I chose to bike for groceries, motivated by the anticipation of passing through this beautifully designed area. It transformed a simple errand into a delightful moment.
