As I'm planning next years field season, I wonder if anyone on here would like to run a small island project on Skúvoy with me. I will be catching and samling great skuas, but there will be good opportunities to investigate other aspects of seabird island ecology 🌍🧪 #seabirds

1/2 Mayhem around the cottage just now as the corvids were gathering to roost.
Just before dark, a Peregrine was launching attacks on the flocks. Here's the bird slowed down - the only time that I managed to isolate it as it circled the garden.

After 8 years & 400 Black-headed Gulls caught & ringed at Center Parcs Sherwood, on Saturday we had our first ever control. Not got the full details yet but we do know it was ringed in June 2003 making it 22 years old.

Ringed under BTO licence.

There’s such beauty in variety – and the eggs laid by our terns show it too. In our newest paper we try to find patterns in this variety and test how female identity and age, as well as laying order, affect the colour, spottiness, shape, and size of eggs: doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

If destroying our life support system were human nature there would be no need to corrupt governments, deny science, and weaken media to keep the fossil fuel industry going.
If war were just human nature, it would not be so deeply long-term traumatizing to participate in war.

If war were just human nature, military training would not amount to psychological torture.

If war were just human nature, there would be no need to pump literal billions into pro-war propaganda.

In case anyone’s wondering what to get me for Christmas 😍
I love painting jaeger chicks.
Reason 1: they’re ridiculously cute!
2: Skuas often get a bad reputation because they steal food from other seabirds or sometimes prey on their 🐥. But… they do it to feed their own adorable baby 💛!
