1/2 Mayhem around the cottage just now as the corvids were gathering to roost.
Just before dark, a Peregrine was launching attacks on the flocks. Here's the bird slowed down - the only time that I managed to isolate it as it circled the garden.

New hawk-cuckoo species described from Borneo
A previously unknown species of hawk-cuckoo has been described from Borneo. The newly recognised taxa was previously considered a population of Dark Hawk-Cuckoo, which is found in Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. Bornean birds principally differ from that species (and the closely related Large Hawk-Cuckoo) by their unique three-syllabled main song.

After 8 years & 400 Black-headed Gulls caught & ringed at Center Parcs Sherwood, on Saturday we had our first ever control. Not got the full details yet but we do know it was ringed in June 2003 making it 22 years old.
Ringed under BTO licence.
