I don’t really care for DOS compatibility as I have DOS-specific systems. I was just wondering which one was the best for that Win98-specific era of “3D audio” games that I saw a lot when I was a kid but that I could never enjoy as my crappy Live soundcards didn’t support it

Sadly it didn’t come with one and I fear I will never luck out enough to find someone selling just the 5.25” unit. Oh well, I will keep looking, who knows.

But but the people on the internets told me that A3D 2.0 Half-Life is awesome and that EAX doesn’t come close :’(
November 15, 2025 at 5:14 PM
Well. That’s a disappointment. Everyone on the internet talks about them as if they are awesome-balls and 300x better than EAX. Recently got an Audigy 2 ZS, I guess I can stick to that then?
November 15, 2025 at 3:44 PM
How does it compare to the 2 ZS? I got one recently for 10 EUROs. Screw the scalpers
November 15, 2025 at 3:42 PM
Ah yes my favourite version of FF7. It truly shines on N64

I have been looking for one for years, the only decently priced ones are in the US and after the entire tariffs thing I dread to think of how much I would pay in customs fees purchasing one. What a shame

MSAdv wasn’t on par with the entries on Arcade. They’re awesome games but unless you’re some crazy RedBull-fueled person that has replayed the game hundreds of times there’s no way you will ever finish one with a decent amount of coins. Just cheat your way with unlimited lives like I do and enjoy :)

Sorry mate the remake literally came out one year ago and it opened the game to a brand new demographic, no need to be a downer for people who got into it thanks to the remake and maybe still have it in a wishlist waiting for a sale before buying and playing it
November 12, 2025 at 7:39 PM
Dang thanks for the spoiler. Still haven’t played the games

44 pin connectors are small and fiddly, I have once shorted one myself once just by lining up the pins incorrectly. The cables are also very thin, I would not risk it. If there was a full-size Molex then it would be different
November 12, 2025 at 8:26 AM
What I meant are the usual HD power connectors. Just saw that it came with a DOM - pretty snazzy for the era. Well, never mind my suggestion then. Another test might be by purchasing a replacement power supply but it might be wasted money

So it doesn’t require particular dexterity and you can put it in place with the system turned off, in complete safety. Pretty much nothing can happen. You can turn it on only when the probes are in place and you can monitor the voltages when booting
November 11, 2025 at 10:29 PM
I only suggested it because you can just slam one of the probes in one of the molex connector pins. It fits just perfectly and it will stay in place without risking any short. That’s what I usually do and it works very well. From the Molex you can test both 5V and 12V. A cheap multimeter is 5-10€
November 11, 2025 at 10:28 PM
I hoped it had the 12V going to a small PSU board attached somewhere and a standard ATX plug. Welp. Multimeter time
November 11, 2025 at 10:48 AM
I suspect the ticking noise is coming from the PSU.

You need to check the voltages with a multimeter (some BIOSes also reported voltages but I am not sure I would call them trustworthy)

Quickest way to check this without going full multimeter-y is to swap the PSU with a known good one

32, 8, 16. In that order. Unless I eff’d up my conversion

I had a boatload of trouble converting a Radeon 7000 from PC to Mac. I had to switch the EEPROM (I don’t think it was SPI flash?) from 64kb to 128kb to fit the Macintosh firmware, then the card had to be flashed from the Mac as it wouldn’t work when directly flashing it from my programmer

I still need to replay Terranigma because it has been 20 years since last time and I am still grinding my teeth that I didn’t resurrect Mu

Also FF5 is one of the best and most underrated (because Americans usually skip it because of the FF3/6 thing) games in the series. Highly recommended

@museumjoe.bsky.social Cory answered to my PM. He says that you can contact him via the PM system on 68kmla (if you need help with activation let me know and I will tell him) as he gets an email notification when he gets one, and that you can contact him there for any matters pertinaining the site.

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time…
November 8, 2025 at 10:53 PM
I do have one. It also has the switch, but it’s missing the shroud and it has a long-ish cable. It also has the screw holes in the side to attach the usual switch/shroud to it. Weird thing
November 8, 2025 at 10:50 PM
I actually need to order one for my 286 case, it came without one :(

Does anyone know the part number for it?
November 8, 2025 at 10:43 PM
Wow, Vobis Computers. That takes me back.
