One of these has two journos on it that used to reside in Hong Kong - they *should know* better - how many bamboo scaff fires did they see in their time here? Also: ever seen steel scaff on the 35th floor bending in 200km/h typhoon winds? Nah me neither mate. Seen bamboo do it but… #Mangkhut

Is it herd mentality? The dregs of Orientalism? Lazy journalism? Why do western media orgs just blindly publish ‘the fire started because of the bamboo’ stories? If Hong Kong has bamboo scaffolding for 100 years surely there is a history of fires every other week? www.instagram.com/reel/DRlhAjG...

“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.”
