Yeah. That's exactly what I did. I've never thought that just because I started the game that I was owed the ending somehow. That's weird.

I bat for arcades, of course. I didn't have much money as a kid but sticking a 10p coin into a Wonder Boy or Bubble Bobble machine and being amused for 15 minutes before I wandered off and, I dunno, enjoyed the seaside or something. Yeah, that was great actually.

Point is, whether or not it seems like a good idea in 2025, arcade games were a business model that made sense from the late '70s til the mid-late '90s. There are different business models in place now, some less-predatory (not that IMO arcades were, but YMMV). Some actually more so.

"Arcade games were designed to gobble up coins" - person who's paying a monthly subscription fee for a games service. Or streaming. Or fucking PhotoShop or whatever.

"Arcade games were designed to gobble up coins" - person who's paying a monthly subscription fee for an online game.

"Arcade games were designed to gobble up coins" - person who bought a game at full price and is still paying for every last shirt, hat, and pair of shoes released for all the characters periodically.

"Arcade games were designed to gobble up coins" - person who has only played one of the few predatory games designed to do this, like the original TMNT belt-action, and presumes they're all like that.

"Arcade games were designed to gobble up coins" - person who sees game progress as transactional and not realising that said coins in shorter arcade experiences could sometimes add up to the same $1 = 1 hour playtime they demand from their Steam games.

This is actually a big deal these days, I feel like I hardly create anything. #lolburnout
