My feeling, though, is that if Gilligan wanted us to perhaps side with the "zombies" then we would have been treated to a storyline from their perspective by this point. He has remained with Carol the entire time and it's apparently turning more than me off the show...

The difference is that you cared about Walt from the jump. He was a sympathetic protagonist.
Carol, after 3 hours, remains deeply unlikeable. I'm either rooting for no one or, perhaps falling in line with the show's intention, I find myself siding with the "zombies."
